Chocolate Frosting

Submitted by tueda

I discovered this recipe as an advertisement for Baker's Chocolate my mother had torn out of a magazine years ago.

  • 5 oz unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups icing sugar
  • 1/3 cup hot water

  1. Melt the chocolate and let it cool for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Cream the butter with an electric mixer, then add the egg, sugar, and chocolate. Once it is well blended, add the water.
  3. Chill the frosting until it is spreading consistency.

Cook's Notes

This frosting tends to be a little loose when warmed, so make sure that when you ice a cake with it, you let the cake cool completely. Otherwise the frosting will be slipping off the cake, and it's a mess.
