Chocolate Chip Cookies

Submitted by purplemb

Based on the Nestle recipe on their chocolate chips and Mark Bittman's recipe in How to Cook Everything, these are simple chocolate chip cookies. A classic.

  • 1/2 lb unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • scant 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbs vanilla
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

  1. Pretty standard cookie directions. Preheat oven to 375°. Combine sugars and butter and mix with an electric mixer. Add the eggs and mix again. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Add to the sugar/butter/egg mix by hand. Add the vanilla and finally the chocolate chips.
  2. Place rounded teaspoonfuls on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for ~ 10 minutes (or until they are to your preferred level of done-ness).

Cook's Notes

Sometimes I use Nestle semisweet morsels, sometimes I use Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips. Both give delicious results!

The amount of vanilla in these cookies is triple the usual amount. I read this tip somewhere on the internet, and I think it's a good one!
